Step By Step Preservation Procedure Of Umbilical Cord


When a baby takes birth many thing parents plan for their child’s safety. One of the important thing that a parent can do is collect the blood from the umbilical cord. The umbilical cord is a long cord which can connect the baby with the mother. Earlier the cord used to throw away, but nowadays people become aware of all these and they like to save umbilical cord blood for the child’s health. It is common to preserve the umbilical cord blood in African and Asian countries for the future reference. In this article, we will brief the steps of preservation of the blood






The Preservation Procedure


The umbilical cord preservation step by step process are mentioned below

Step 1

The first step is to clean the cord with cotton; the cotton ball should be soaked in the alcohol. It is not advised to handle the umbilical cord with a bare hand, wear latex gloves and then handle it.


Step 2

Keep the larger piece of umbilical cord on the cardboard and allow it to get it dry in the ventilated area. The size of the cardboard that you need depends on the size of the umbilical cord and all the arrangement that you have made for the cord. Now allow the umbilical cord to take in a shape which you want to give it and make it dry. For an example heart. One the cord get dry do not try to shape it otherwise it can crack.


Step 3

If you do not want to preserve the total umbilical cord then collect the stump of the umbilical cord only. After 10 days of your newborn baby, it will fall off and will dry up completely by this time. If you see that it does not dry or clean you have to dry it up the entire cord.

Step 4

Now preserve the cord in an in a satchel or any special box.
